If we’re not up to it this is when we can become “down” from the lack of sunlight and, just as bad, catch a cold. Virus load, that is how many viruses are present, is the same now as in the middle of summer. The reason viral colds start up this time of year is the stress of the season change.
Kids in school have the stress of a new environment, waking up earlier than they’re used to, and our brain and body have to adjust to the shorter days.
Things to do at home for cold prevention and keeping mentally sharp.
Omega-3 Oils
Omega-3 oils are the primary oils in the brain. This is important for recall and memorization. It is also a mood elevator. It will definitely help if you get down with the lack of sunlight.
Eat salmon or Arctic char. Arctic char looks like a small salmon. It takes great. McGowan’s Fish Market in Valparaiso will get them.
Get English Walnuts. They will start showing up in grocery stores at this time of year. English walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 oils.
Vitamin D is a mood elevator and immune system supporter.
